Letting Life Come to Me
Perspectives change as life passes from looking ahead to being in the present. In my youth I was conditioned to chase my dreams. Go forth and conquer my slice of fame and fortune.
That is all well and good for that segment of life. If it persists past its useful stage it will just burn me out never being satisfied with enjoying the here and now. Always pushing to the next goal or nicer thing or better vacation. Today, I took some guilty pleasure during the week (hey, it's summer) to go lay by the pool and replenish my vitamin D3 supply. As well as chill for awhile and ponder my position in the universe this speck of cosmic date and time.
While watching the trees sway in the warm breeze and feeling the sun sizzle my skin I realized that this is about as good as it can get. If I could freeze time or describe an ideal place to be it would be here and now. Sure I could be at the beach, or in New Zealand. Or... at the pool in my townhome complex. It was the same! Basking in the sun is basking in the sun no matter if you are in Hawaii or Alligator Point, or Fort Collins, Colorado. I could spend thousands of dollars to travel to an exotic location to do the exact same thing and achieve the exact same state of calmness. To me, it was a small epiphany! I no longer need to chase life! I can let it come to me! I can lay by the pool and remember the neat beaches I have visited over my life. Or, I can just savor the sun on my brow in the here and now. Now I won't need a vacation to recover from my vacation!
